Dreamfall Chapters Book 5 Out on June 17!

The final part of Red Thread’s episodical adventure game Dreamfall Chapters, titled REDUX, is due to be released a week from today (June 17). A teaser trailer for it is out now, which consists mostly of reminders of certain things that have happened in the first four parts, as well as showing all the key players in the game. You can check out the teaser trailer below.

As you can see, the real “teaser” part of this teaser trailer comes at the very end…

Dreamfall Chapters 5 Trailer 1A somewhat emaciated, atrophy-stricken Zoe…? Most intriguing.

I anticipate that there will be a launch trailer released next week, so I’m looking forward to that. And of course, I’m looking forward to the game itself, even though I’ve probably forgotten several aspects of the plot. It has been quite a while since I last played the first four parts, after all.

Till next time, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you!

“Yomawari: Night Alone” out in October from Steam

Sometime ago, when I first learned of the Japanese PSV game called Yomawari: Night Alone (夜廻 in Japanese), I thought it looked very interesting. But since I didn’t (and still don’t) own a PSV, I soon forgot about all about it. Today, though, I found out that in October it will be getting a Western release and not just for the PSV. It will be getting a Windows release as well, which I’m pretty happy about. You can check out the announcement trailer for it below.

From what I can gather, Yomawari: Night Alone is survival horror game, but with really cute graphics and a nice, slow pace. Steam is currently offering a Pitch Dark Edition (funnily enough, for the same price as the the regular edition) and it includes a digital art book and the original soundtrack. So, now I have something to look forward to in October. [^_^]

That’s all for now. Till next time, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you!

My TyranoBuilder Summer Game Jam Entry

The inaugural TyranoBuilder Summer Game Jam ended just over 24 hours ago; for those who do not know, TyranoBuilder is the name of a new visual novel creation software. I actually thought I may not be able to submit an entry at one point, but just when I was ready to throw in the towel, I got a dose of inspiration from watching a few episodes of one of my favourite TV shows from yesteryear. So thanks to that, as well as a great deal of effort and determination, I managed to more or less finish my entry with about three hours to spare, which I was quite happy about.

The title of my entry is A World Called Verendia. It’s basically a shortish tale of a girl named Alysia who suddenly finds herself in the fantasy world of Verendia and her subsequent quest to get back to Earth. You can see the title screen of my entry below. I originally wanted to make a proper game for the jam, but due to the little time that was available, I settled for a straight visual novel, which means it has no game elements whatsoever. But after all, one of the purposes of TyranoBuilder is to create straight visual novels. And this is in fact the main reason why I purchased it.

TyranoBuilder Summer Game Jam Details

OK, the details on the TyranoBuilder Summer Game Jam have been released! The key points are as follows:

  • The jam has a theme and the theme is: united by fate.
  • The game should have a playing time of only about 30 minutes.
  • It is not necessary to have multiple routes.
  • Although it goes without saying, the game has to be made with TB and you can’t include assets in it that you aren’t allowed to use.
  • There is a prize pool of a $1000 split into 4 categories.

I’m glad about the third point, because my aim would be to tell a story and not create a complex Choose Your Own Adventure tale. And besides, the judges will supposedly only have time to go through one route of each game anyway, so making more than one route will not be of any real benefit. However, 30 minutes playing time is not very long; the visual novel that I’ve been working on for the last few days will be quite a lot longer than that. So that means I will have to come up with a new idea for this jam. Fortunately, I already have a rough concept that I think will fit the requirements of the jam quite nicely. I’ll post details on it once I have something to show, such as some concept art.

Till next time, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you!

TyranoBuilder Summer Game Jam

A TyranoBuilder Summer Game Jam was announced on Steam the other day, which is due to start on Monday (but probably on Tuesday for me). Details are still forthcoming, but there will be prizes, so it sounds like it could be fun. I’ll consider taking part myself, depending on a couple of factors. I’m already planning on making a visual novel with TB, but it is a visual novel in the strictest sense: in other words, it won’t have any game elements whatsoever. So, if something like that is OK for the jam, chances are I will take part. However, if it has to have game elements, I might still take part as long as it doesn’t have to be too substantial. We’ll see what happens.

Till next time, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you!
