What If Sazae Was a Modern-day High Schooler?

Nissin has released a third commercial as part of the 2017 “Youth” advertising campaign for their “Cup Noodle” product. This one features the titular character from the classic Japanese comic strip Sazae-san (and the cartoon based thereof), which was created by Machiko Hasegawa way back in 1946. Ms Hasegawa is known for being the first female professional comic artist in Japan.

What If Heidi Was a Modern-day High Schooler?

Back in June, I wrote about post (which you can read here) about a new Japanese commercial for Nissin’s “Cup Noodle”. As I stated in that post, that commercial was the first in a series in which certain heroines would be reimagined in modern settings. Well, it’s taken three months, but a second commercial has been released! This one features Heidi, who is of course originally from the famous Swiss children’s novel of the same name by Johanna Spyri. Here, however, Heidi is clearly based on the version from the classic Japanese cartoon, known as Arupusu no Shōjo Haiji, (or Heidi, Girl of the Alps in English), which was produced in the 70s.

What If Kiki Was a Modern-day High Schooler?

I just came across this cool commercial on my Twitter feed. It was made by the Japanese company Nissin Foods to promote one of their flagship products, the “Cup Noodle”. What makes this commercial so cool is the fact that it features Kiki (and others) from the 1989 Japanese animated film Majo no Takkyubin, (known in English as Kiki’s Delivery Service), one of my favourite films of all time.
