A trailer has just been released for the new Tomb Raider film, starring Alicia Vikander, which is coming out in early 2018. First and foremost, I have to admit I’m not really a Tomb Raider fan. I’ve never played any of the original games and I’ve only ever seen snippets of the Angelina Jolie movies. However, I have played the 2013 reboot game (titled simply Tomb Raider) and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. Now, it’s pretty obvious that the plot of the new movie is based on this particular game (albeit with a different set of supporting characters), so it could be a lot of fun.

The only thing that slightly bothers me is the choice of Ms Vikander as Lara Croft. Sure she’s incredibly beautiful and all that, but (to me at least) she doesn’t quite seem to have the right physique for a world-traversing adventurer. On the other hand, maybe I’m just being biased because I’m so used to how Lara Croft looked in the game. It’s entirely possible that Ms Vikander may be as good a Lara Croft as Daniel Craig is a James Bond, but I guess we’ll have to wait till next year to find out.
