Daily Heroine: Dejah Thoris

Today’s Daily Heroine is: Dejah Thoris, the beautiful copper-skinned Martian princess, from the Barsoom series of novels, written by American pulp fiction writer Edgar Rice Burroughs. There are several books in this series, but I have only read the first one, which is titled A Princess of Mars. Alas, I only found out about the Barsoom books as an adult. If I had known about them as a kid, I’m sure I would have read most if not all of them. The fantastic setting and exciting adventures would have drawn me right in! 😆

The cover you can see is from the 1979 edition of A Princess of Mars, published by Del Rey, which features a painting by Michael Whelan. As you would expect for a novel that’s over a hundred years old, there have been many covers created for it, but this is the best one I’ve seen thus far. The main reason for this is, Mr Whelan’s obvious talent aside, that the lovely Dejah is naked, as she should be. Yes, she is naked, even though it may be hard to see because of the minute size of the image.😋

I’m always on the look out for new interesting and likeable heroines, so if you have a particular favourite, please tell me about her! Till tomorrow, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you.😊
