Today’s Daily Heroine is: Noriko Takaya (タカヤ・ノリコ), the eager young space cadet from the Japanese animation known as Gunbuster in the West, and トップをねらえ! in Japan (which is literally Aim for the Top! in English). She was voiced by the legendary Noriko Hidaka (日髙 のり子). Gunbuster was a six-episode OVA (Original Video Animation) created by the famed Gainax studio, the first episode of which was released in 1988. It was conceived as an over-the-top, multi-genre parody, but the end result is something truly amazing; it would have to rate as one of my favourite sci-fi adventures of all time. And Noriko, who is a determined yet vulnerable young girl, is such a lovable heroine.😊 I just can’t help but cheer for her from start to finish. Incidentally, the screenshot you can see is from the final episode of Gunbuster, which was in black and white.
I should explain here that Thursdays were supposed to be for Daily Heroines from animated movies, but unfortunately the number of potential candidates in this category is already quite low, so I’ve decided to also highlight OVA heroines on Thursdays. Till tomorrow, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you.😊
