Today’s Daily Heroine is: Deunan Knute (デュナン・ナッツ), from the 80s manga Appleseed (アップルシード), by Masamune Shirow (士郎正宗). I think Masamune Shirow is best known for Ghost in the Shell, but I first got to know him through Appleseed. I’ve always admired Mr Shirow’s drawing style: it has a sketchy, but at the same time detailed look to it (and he sure knows how to draw sexy women!😆). The picture you can see is the cover from volume one of the English version of Appleseed, published by Eclipse Books in 1989. Deunan is, as you would expect, the smaller figure sitting on the shoulder of the larger one. She is very cute, but she is also extremely tough and hardened, and she is a member of an elite police force called ESWAT (which is essentially a paramilitary organization). I must admit, though, that I have never read all of Appleseed, only parts of it. But I would like to, one day.
I’m always on the look out for new interesting and likeable heroines, so if you have a particular favourite, please tell me about her! Till tomorrow, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you.😊
