There is some sad news from Japan today. One of the offices of Kyoto Animation (KyoAni for short), a well-known Japanese animation production company, was the target of an arson attack. Details of the incident are still emerging, but at least one person has died and several dozen others were injured, some of them seriously. The perpetrator is in police custody.

I am a big fan of quite a few of the series produced by KyoAni,in particular. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions and Beyond the Boundary. In my opinion all of KyoAni‘s works are high-quality pieces of art that, without a doubt, brought a great deal of joy to a great number of people around the world, and so I offer my deepest condolences to those affected by this tragedy.
