Trailer for “The Last Jedi” Released!

I’ve been a huge Star Wars fan for almost my entire life, but I have to say that at the moment, my love for the franchise is at an all time low. Things seem to be going from bad to worse, in that galaxy far, far away. So to be honest I wasn’t exactly dying to see the full trailer for The Last Jedi, which was released today. What do I think about it, now that I’ve seen it? Not much, actually. I didn’t find it particularly interesting or exciting. The film does seem to have a very dark mood about it, which I think John Boyega (AKA Finn) remarked on not so long ago, but that may simply be due to the fact a lot of the shots in the trailer are in dark places. In any case, it may possibly end up being the darkest Star Wars film to date. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The one really salacious crumb (😋) in the trailer is at the very end, when Rey appears to reach out for Kylo Ren’s assistance. After watching The Force Awakens, I thought it would be interesting if Rey and Kylo Ren’s apparent destinies where to be completely upturned. That is, that Rey would turn out to be the villain(ess) and that Kylo Ren would turn out to be the hero. However, the trailer suggests that both of them are siding with darkness. Of course, the whole thing could be a silly ploy to allow Rey to get close to the rulers of the First Order and take them out from within. I really wouldn’t be surprised by something like that. But again, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Now the one big disappointment in the trailer for me (and this is a disappointment that has carried over from The Force Awakens) is that Luke Skywalker, hero of the galaxy, hardly does anything. I hope that they are saving some really bad-ass scenes for Luke in the actual movie, because if there isn’t any, I can tell you right now I won’t be happy. After all, Luke is my favourite movie hero of all time and I want to see him be the hero at least once more.

The Last Jedi will open here (in Australia) on December 14 and in America on December 15, but tickets are already available. Till next time, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you!😊
