This week, whilst flipping channels on the TV, I came across a rather strange looking kid’s show called LazyTown, which featured a girl with incredibly bright pink hair. I’ve always liked characters with unusually-coloured hair, so I decided to find out more about it.
LazyTown, as it turns out, is a kid’s TV show from Iceland created by Magnus Scheving, an ex-gymnast, and its purpose is to promote an active lifestyle to young kids. The girl with pink hair is named Stephanie Meanswell and when she first arrives in LazyTown, she is surprised to find that the town’s kids (who are all puppets) are extremely lazy. But honestly, in a place with the word lazy in its name, what else could you expect? Anyway, Stephanie (initially played by actress Julianna Rose Mauriello and then by Chloe Lang) sets about curing the town’s of its laziness and in this task, she is aided by the superhero Sportacus (played by Scheving himself) and opposed by the villain Robbie Rotten.
Lazytown seems to have quite a large following, most likely due to its incredibly catchy song and dance routines. In fact, you can find a heap of official and fan-made LazyTown videos on Youtube. Although it doesn’t feature Stephanie, my personal favourite song is one called We Are Number One. It’s definitely worth a listen!😊
Till next time, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you!
