I must be going mad with BABYMETAL fever. This is like the fifth BABYMETAL post I’ve made in about two weeks. I was actually waiting to see what the BABYMETAL website was going to do when Fox Day arrived in Japan, but surprise surprise, the website is down. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed that before. Anyway, while I was waiting, I thought I’d have a go at translating my favourite BABYMETAL song, which is of course KARATE. This translation is not an exact literal translation; it’s a translation designed to capture the spirit of the song, which I think represents a rallying cry in the midst of an almighty struggle. So here it is…

KARATE by BABYMETAL
Words: Yuyoyuppe
Music: Yuyoyuppe
Translation: Me (Maruse Rino)
Seiya Se Se Se Seiya
Soiya So So So Soiya
Even if tears stream down our faces
We’ll never back down
With sheer determination
Seiya Soiya We will fight on
We’ll steel our fists and our hearts
We’ll become stronger in every way
We’re far from done
Seiya Soiya We will fight on
Even if we are overcome with grief
And can barely stand anymore
Seiya Se Se Se Seiya
Soiya So So So Soiya
Even if we are left broken-hearted
We’ll never back down
With sheer determination
Seiya Soiya We will fight on
We’ll steel our fists and our hearts
We’ll become stronger in every way
We’re far from done
Seiya Soiya We will fight on
Even if we are overcome with grief
And can barely stand anymore
Seiya Soiya We will fight on
We’ll become stronger in every way
With sheer determination
Seiya Soiya We will fight on
We’ll steel our fists and our hearts
We’ll become stronger in every way
We’re far from done
Seiya Soiya We will fight on
Even if we are overcome with grief
And can barely stand anymore
Keep on going

I’d be interested to know what people think of my translation. The only part I’m not very happy with is “With sheer determination”. I might come up with something better later. Oh, and in case anyone is interested, the link below is for the site where I referenced the original Japanese lyrics from.

If I’m in the mood, I may try and do some other translations in the future, but till next time, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you!
