But the Fox God has smiled on me and I received my copy of METAL RESISTANCE in the post today!
As I wrote in my post from a few a days ago, I ordered both of BABYMETAL’s albums, but the first one to arrive was this one. The other one (their debut album) has yet to arrive, even though it was supposedly sent out first. But that’s OK, because METAL RESISTANCE was the one I was looking forward to hearing more anyway.
My impressions? I’m presently listening it for the
second third time, so I’m still getting familiar with it, but my initial impression is that it’s pretty good. I’m a J-pop fan, not a metal fan, so I think generally I prefer the more melodic tracks, the ones where Suzuka Nakatomo AKA SU-METAL (the lead vocalist) can really shine, such as No Rain, No Rainbow (which is her solo effort on this album) and of course, THE ONE. My pick of the tracks from those that hadn’t been officially released before is From Dusk Till Dawn ( AKA シンコペーション or Syncopation in Japanese*), which has a very nice dance/electronica aspect to it. I also like Awadama Fever which is a cute, uptempo rock song. But I have to say that KARATE is by far the best song on the album. It’s such a great song that I would’ve gladly bought this album just to get a physical copy of it. Yes, I prefer physical copies over digital copies.
So, overall I enjoyed this album and I certainly look forward to what BABYMETAL will produce in the future. But in the meantime, I’ll be waiting for their other album to drop into my letterbox. Maybe it will get here on Fox Day. [^_^]
Till next time, au revoir, arrivederci and may the force be with you!
*I’m reading now that Syncopation is a different song altogether, but I can’t say for sure if that’s true. I just assumed the same song had different titles in English and Japanese.
